Nurse Aide Course Description

Moon River Nursing Careers is now working in partnership with the American Red Cross to train nursing assistants. We use a Blended Learning model that includes online and on-site training. Complete the 140 hour course in 5 weeks and be prepared to take the Board of Nursing exam to become a CNA.

What is included in the 140-hour Nurse Aide at Moon River Nursing Careers?

• 50 hours online instruction that can taken from your home any time of day that is convenient for you. We use the engaging American Red Cross Training Services curriculum that uses professionally produced videos to show students what a CNA does in a typical day. Students get to experience the joys and challenges faced by a new CNA and experience the rewarding relationships she forms with her patients.
• 20 hours training in dementia and end-of-life care.
• 30 hours skills lab at Moon River Nursing Careers in Ashburn, VA. Labs are offered a few days a week from 5 pm to 9 pm.
• 40 hours clinicals at a long-term care facility.

Throughout the Nurse Aide course, students acquire important skills. In addition, they learn about professional patient interaction, recording vital signs and observing the patient’s condition. They also learn how to assist with personal care, bathing, dressing and feeding. Importantly, they become familiar with how to document observations as a healthcare professional. Finally, students are taught how to report their observations to the nurse supervisor.

Upon successful completion of the Nursing Aide course, a student is prepared to take the Virginia Board of Nursing exam to become a CNA. The next step is to prepare for employment. We assist students in creating a professional resume and in completing job applications. Instructors take time to learn about each student’s career interests. They help them apply for jobs in hospitals, medical offices, clinics, assisted living communities, nursing homes, home health and Hospice.
